The Birth of the Sandwich
John Montagu, the Fourth Earl of Sandwich, was the First Sea Lord of the British Navy, a noted explorer, a patron of the arts and a gambler fond of daylong card games. His busy schedule left him little time for food, so he came up with the idea of putting meat between two slices of bread. Thus in 1762 the sandwich was born - the first and finest fast food the world has ever known.
